Last night I went to visit the children's home in El Crucero. I usually cook a spaghetti dinner at least once a month on a Friday night. However, thought we'd try something different this time. So me, Angie and Emily went up and braved a BBQ for 30 people. It went great. I only dropped one burger into the flames! I was so sad to see it fall as I flipped it!

We always have such a rich time of fellowship when we hang out together. We cook, eat, laugh, sing and pray together. Even the little ones. My heart was SO touched to see all the younger angels, from ages 2 to 5 praying earnestly. Some of them pray out loud for a very long time,eyes tightly closed and hands folded, thanking God for everyone in their life and all the things they have. They know what it is like to go without and it is evident that their little hearts are thankful and content.

What an amazing blessing to see the transformation of these children's lives by the power of The Holy Spirit. I know deep in my heart how much God loves Nicaragua and His people here, and I see Him at work in this nation. I consider it an honor and a privilege to be co laboring with Christ to raise up a new generation who will advance His Kingdom here on earth.

I took some of our children from KFC/Kid's Following Christ, at our Covenant Church. As soon as we arrived, they got busy serving The LORD with their gifts and talents. They loved on the children, helped prepare and serve the meal and ran around the whole time helping in whatever way was needed. I didn't even have to ask them to do anything. I never once had to prompt an action, it all flowed straight from their hearts. What a testimony of our Great and Awesome God to see His children ministering to other children in need.

8 year old Luviana has one glass eye and is almost blind in the other one. We are trying to find a school for the blind for her to attend, but she will need a place to live close to it as well. Please join us in prayer for this provision for her.

5 or 6 year old Ofelia, my how you have grown since I first met you. The doctors thought she was about 4 months old when I was in hospital with her when she first came here about 18 months ago.

Just about a year ago, someone donated a box of books that they no longer had need of to our church. We decided it might be a good idea to share them by making them available for anyone who was interested in borrowing them.We set the books out on a table in one of our back rooms. It was an instant hit!

Very soon, people started donating more books and our collection quickly grew. We now have over 600 books in inventory!! In both English and Spanish.

Wait, you have to realise that here in Nicaragua there just aren't any libraries as you may know them in USA or UK for example. In fact, I do not know of ANY other place here where you can borrow books from.

The whole concept was new to the Nicaraguans at our church. They were so excited exclaiming, "You mean I can take the book to my house and read it there?!" This was/is BIG! What a novelty.

It was quite a task to organize them and categorize them, I have never done anything like this before, so I had zero experience! But.. it is now almost complete and looks beeautiful! At the begining of this month, thanks to all who gave generously, we were able to finish installing the shelves and it looks fabulous!!!!

Now I am praying that someone will be willing to come in and take over this project as their ministry, so I can focus on Children's Ministry at Covenant Church. I see the library as great potential for evangelism, as we invite others in to use the books, and maybe serve refreshments, coffee, lemonade, and so on. LORD, have your way, this is your project in your church. Thank you for the fun it has been setting it up, now who will take it from here?

I met with my little angels Gabriel and Rafael today. For the last time here in Nicaragua. They leave tomorrow with their new family to go and start a whole new life in Germany. I cannot express in words how these two little angelitos have blessed my life. To see the power of Almighty God at work in their lives has given new hope, not just to me, but to anyone who has had the opportunity to be even a small part of their lives.

Gabriel and Rafael wanted to keep the giraffes I gave to them with them on the plane. Marion says they sleep with them at night too! HUGS XXXXX

With great sadness, a heavy heart, and struggling to hold back the tears, we went to the pool, played with my giraffes, then parted ways. LORD I rest secure in the knowledge that they are in your hands and you will protect them and keep them on the path you have prepared for them. They will be powerful testimonies of your great love and awesome transforming power. Dear sweet Gabriel and Rafael, I love you like my own babies. Be blessed beyond your wildest imaginings and live the fine lives God has prepared for you! There will always be a special place for you in my heart.

I made it back to Nicaragua today, after enjoying the holidays in
South Florida with family and friends.

On the last day I was there it was said to have been 30 degrees, and with the wind shield, 20 degrees!! Brrrrr!!

It was a cool welcome back too tho, with temperatures lower than usual for Managua. I am enjoying it while it lasts because, no doubt, by March/April we will be praying for cool days like this.

*took me to the airport to begin my Christmas Holiday
*bestowed a generous Christmas gift upon me as I left
*welcomed me into her home and family for the holidays
*stayed up late to chat and paint our nails together when really you were exhausted
*treated me to countless yummy meals out
*surprised me by buying me the salt and pepper grinder I had admired
*gave me a ride whenever I needed one, whatever the time was
*went to the office on a day off to help load up the car with my "stuff"
*drove for hours to come and visit with me while I was in town
*welcomed in the New Year with me
*stayed up past her bedtime to pray with me and work through some struggles
*drove to meet me at the airport in the middle of the night
*brought me hot toast the first morning back when I was suffering with a pounding headache, then spoiled me rotten by cooking lunch for me also
*offered to meet me at the airport if I got stranded
*made me a cup of hot tea on my first visit back
*regularly sends me encouraging, uplifting e/mails

Wow, I am SO incredibly blessed to have such wonderful friends. Hence my fb post/"You must really love me LORD, 'coz you gave me fantastic friends."

There are tons more examples too! I have so many amazing friends it would be impossible to list all of the gifts of friendship, but I hope you recognise yourself among these thanks. And, to my friends of the past, present and future, I treasure your friendship, and truly "Thank my God upon EVERY remembrance of you." Phil 1 v 3.

I ushered in the New Year in Fort Lauderdale at a Praise and Worship concert led by Anthony Evans.

It was fantastic!!!! Rejoice, again I say Rejoice!

It was the biggest gathering I have ever been to for a New Year's celebration where everyone was likeminded, there was reported to have been about 4000 in attendance.

I'm not the best writer in the world, but I hope I can express in words what I have been feeling in my heart this Christmas.

I love the song: "Humbly you came to the earth you created, all for love's sake became poor. Here I am to worship."

Words that I have sung so many times, but as we prepare for Christmas this year, they touched my heart in a very different way. I was deeply affected as I got a picture in my mind. There you are Sovereign, Almighty God, Your Majesty, you created everything, and it was good! (Genesis) Then I read Job 38 & 39, "The LORD speaks." You created every single thing on this earth, and above it, and could have chosen all kinds of riches for your only Son.

You know as a mother of two and grandmother of five, I remember how excited I was over the birth of each one of my children. I realized the miracle of each life, with the words of Psalm 139 echoing in my heart, overflowing with joy and gratitude for each one of them. I wanted the very best of everything for them - especially for my firstborn, my son David. Expectant parents usually prepare for the birth of their babies with great excitement and anticipation, maybe painting the nursery, getting the tiny clothes ready, toys, baby shower..... everything is new, clean and sterile.

How different was the birth of your Son Father God. You chose for your only Son to be born in a lowly stable among animals, and strangers. Mary didn't even have her family close by.

King of Kings and Lord of Lords,
as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus this year, as we decorate our homes and trees, face the crowded stores for gifts, not to mention face the traffic!, I stop for a moment to reflect on what I can give to you for Christmas. What do you want for your birthday Jesus? What can I offer you? You created everything, you own everything, what can I get for you on my humble budget?

Jesus, here I am. This is my offering. I give you my life, after all, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't know life at all. You gave me the gift of life, of love, of freedom. Your birth, life and death were humble. You gave it all, for all mankind, forever. Thank you for giving your life so that I may live. Help me to give it back to you wholeheartedly. I want to find your heart so I can get lost in it LORD. This is my desire.

Written while waiting for a ride to church:

We are being called to a new level of Faith. Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Abraham believed, although he couldn't see, and it was credited to him as righteousness.

LORD, give us a double portion of Faith, to believe you. Not just to believe in you, for even the enemy believes you exist, but help us to believe you are who you say you are: Sovereign and Almighty God, and that you can do what you say you can do.

We are not here by accident today, we have been called here by name by our Father in Heaven, to Praise Him. Not only because He is worthy of our Praise and because we love Him, but also to break through the powers of darkness for this Nation. The LORD inhabits the praises of His people. Where God's people are praising Him and declaring their love for Him and standing firmly in Faith, united as a church body, the enemy must flee. He cannot stand to be in the presence of worshipers.

Our praise today needs to come from deep within us, on a new level. I pray for an increase of Faith and believe and trust that God can do what seems impossible here on earth.

Let's get our hearts right before The LORD today. Let's pray for the youth in todays rallies, pray for their hearts. Many are taking part in these rallies to feel like they belong, they crave a sense of purpose and want a "cause" to fight for.They were not created for violence and fighting. We need to forgive them ahead of time for what they may do throughout the elections. Pray that they may realize God's perfect plan for their lives, and the purpose for which He created them.

May God's word come to pass when He says: "Ask and I will give the Nations to you." Almighty, Sovereign God, Father in Heaven, we ask you today to give us the Nation of Nicaragua, for your Glory. And whether we see it today, tomorrow or in years to come, help us to believe your Word and live in Hope that every knee in Nicaragua shall bow down to you. For Hope does not disappoint us , God has poured out His love into our hearts by The Holy Spirit who He has given us.

I encourage you to exercise your Faith this day, and Praise and Worship God wholeheartedly with your life from this very moment. So that His Glory and Honor will be revealed through our lives.

Rains Trigger State of Emergency in Nicaragua

Managua - With more rain forecast for the Pacific, central, and western regions of Nicaragua, President Daniel Ortega declared a state of national emergency in recent hours to cope with the immediate needs of thousands of people affected, and to arrange additional resources to mitigate and control the effects of the intense rains in the country.

Since Oct. 10, several Nicaraguan localities, particularly in the Pacific and northern regions, have reported severe environmental and economic damage, as well as human losses.

According to official estimates, 133,858 people have been affected nationwide, with the greatest devastating effects in the departments of Chinandega, Leon, Managua, Esteli, Nueva Segovia and Madriz, Carazo, Rivas, Masaya, Granada, and Rivas.

Following the president's directions, the ministries and state-run entities must act immediately to repair the damage caused to communications, houses and infrastructure works such as electricity networks and aqueducts.

He also ordered to prioritize the restoration of basic services, and maintain in operation the Committees for Prevention, Mitigation and Attention to Disasters to guarantee adequate attention to the evacuees at more than 90 shelters.

Though rains have eased up in the latest hours, the Nicaraguan president called on the population to remain alert, because the most important thing is to preserve human lives.

Ancianos Coronados celebrate Nicaragua's Independence Day!

Covenant Church Managua runs a feeding program for folks 60 and over. Every Wednesday and Friday we serve about 100 meals and once a month on a Saturday we have a special celebration with them also. It is a a time for sharing God's Word, Praise and Worship and prayers throughout the outreach. As a Grandma to 5 very special angels, I am blessed share "nieto" stories with many of the Grandparents here.

What a shame to cut such a beautiful cake. It was delicious though, and it was divinely multiplied, enough for more than 100 people!

This is the humble kitchen where the food is prepared. One day we hope to have a Center for the elderly/Ancianos Coronados, where we can provide a hot meal for them every day and enjoy other fellowship activities too like games, hairdressing, manicures, and all that good funstuff!

Heavenly Father, of all knowledge, wisdom and truth, we thank you for sending your only Son, Jesus, the first teacher, to teach us the way to you.

Father God, we pray for all those who are in authority in this nations’ education system. May there be a move of your grace and power among those in leadership positions. May they be brought to their knees to honor you and do what is right in your sight. We pray that even now you are working in their hearts so they can make decisions with your guidance.

Father God, we lift up to you all the institutions of learning here in Nicaragua/the universities, schools, pre schools, home schools, church schools and daycares, anywhere that learning is taking place.

LORD there are schools here with plenty, and there are schools here in need. There are schools with dirt floors and only plastic tarps for walls to protect the students and teachers from the weather. There are schools where if the children do not bring their own chair, they will have no where to sit once they arrive. Father I have seen children so physically hungry that they cannot even begin to think about learning to read and write. Father God, you have seen it too, these are your children, this is your Nation and we stand firm in our faith that you have a plan for your people here in Nicaragua. We pray for provision, that all children will have an opportunity to get an education, that you will open up the heavens and pour out your abundant blessings on our places of learning, and all who pass through them. May our schools be a safe place to be, with an atmosphere of discipline, peace and order that encourages our children to live according to Your Word. We pray that it will not stop at the schools, but be carried into the homes and passed on to build up communities who love you LORD and will advance Your Kingdom of justice, love and peace.

We pray that the teachers will have a “God perspective”, and see the students as you see them LORD. Give each teacher a renewed passion for teaching, give them strength, energy and creativity in methods and lesson plans in order to encourage each child to reach their full potential and become who you created them to be. May they be filled with Your love and patience to equip the children with spiritual discernment and moral courage as well as academic excellence so they can impact society through Christian living motivated by a heartfelt love for you.

Father God, we praise you for we are fearfully and wonderfully made. You have created us with a wonderful capacity to learn on many levels/practical, social, cultural, intellectual and spiritual, may we continue to learn throughout our lives until we arrive at the full knowledge of You.

Eph. 4v20 “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we could ever ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work in us, to Him be glory in our schools the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever, Amen.”

The simple things in life.

I spent the day at home today.

What a luxury! I haven't had a day at home for so long!

I listened to praise and worship music as I organised my things and tidied the house.

And sometimes, I just sat still , just because I could! I enjoyed the quiet. The song of the birds outside and the chuckle of the gekkos inside.

I prayed as I worked, and journalled some too. Not wanting to forget the pleasures of the simple things in life.

Oh the joy of sleeping in past 5 am!

Oh the fulfilment in catching enough rainwater to do a machine load of laundry and water the indoor plants. Hey, rainwater is free, directly from heaven! And if you leave it outside in the 5 gallon bottle long enough, it gets warm in the sun so you can actually do a warm wash! :)

Oh the delight in picking lemons off the tree in the garden and making fresh lemonade. Yummm, what a reward after moving all that furniture around to re-do the house, in the heat of the day.

Oh to throw caution to the wind and sing at the top of your voice without disturbing anyone.

And to shed a few tears in private from the sorrows of the world, but being comforted and lifted up by The One and only I AM.

Reflections in Ft Lauderdale

Here I am at Fort Lauderdale airport waiting for a flight that has been delayed at least 4 hours.

That’s OK. God is in control. The older I get the easier it is to say that! I booked a midnight flight, got to the airport 3 hours ahead of time to be prepared, to check in my luggage, get a good seat and make sure everything is in order for the flight. Don’t want to miss the flight, just paid $400 for the ticket! Today was my last day in USA. My focus has been to get ready for this trip back to Nicaragua. Last minute phone calls, last minute errands, oh and packing my suitcase, which can now only be 40lbs. Not enough, I had to get online quickly and book an extra suitcase, so I could bring 80 lbs! Anyway, my focus today has been The Trip. Getting ready, doing what I needed to do in order for it to go smoothly and successfully, for 2 reasons, 1) I want to get back to Nicaragua and 2) I don’t want to lose my $400 investment in the ticket.

So here I am at the airport waiting, I am not in control, no matter how much I plan, things change.

As I reflect on this, the question that comes to mind is how much do we focus on our spiritual journey? That trip has also been paid for. More than $400!! The Life of Jesus was the price. We belong to Him now. Our lives should reflect His Glory and bring honor to His name. Our main focus needs to be on doing what we need to do in order to stay on the path that God has prepared for us. God’s trip!

Backing up a little, the Pastor of my church in Nicaragua has been teaching recently about being led by The Holy Spirit. I remember one particular Sunday he acted out an example of life being led by The Spirit. He put his arm around the shoulders of one of the men in the congregation and walked him around the church saying, “Oh, don’t go that way, it’s dangerous there, go over here, there’s a blessing for you here.”, and “Wait, come here first, there’s someone who needs you to pray for them….” And so on. I thought that looks fantastic, I want that! What do I have to do in order to achieve that kind of guidance? Well, our Pastor didn’t leave us there hanging, he continued the lessons on how to lead a Spirit filled life.

In Psalm 27 David asked the LORD for “one thing” it was an all encompassing “one thing”, and so was mine… as we entered our 40 days of fasting and praying together as a church body my “one thing” was to draw closer to God and have a deeper understanding of who The Holy Spirit is in my life. As I fasted that was my prayer, and as The Holy Spirit began to reveal Himself to me, with specific words, and specific directions about what to do in a given situation, just like the example our Pastor had given us, and I wanted more. I wanted to be even closer, so I stepped up my fasting and prayer time. I wanted to crucify my flesh and live by The Spirit. As I heard more and more from The Holy Spirit and as I followed His directions, I was blessed beyond my imaginings. I started to list all of the blessings, but there was no way I could keep up with God and all that he had for me. Each blessing could be at least a 20 minute story, so I can’t go into all the details, but they were extravagant and rich, much more than I could ever ask or imagine.

Living a life led by The Spirit is amazing, I am learning to see God’s hand at work in everything, even this four hour delay at the airport, is God saying: “Hey, I’ll give you free internet, get to work on all those emails you are behind on, then when you get back to the house, the one I provided for you, you can spend time with me. I’ve got more to show you, more to tell you.

I am at peace here in the presence of The LORD.

Thanks to Spirit Air for the flight and the offer of worldly rewards, non transferrable, I won’t settle for that, I’d rather fly with the one and only Holy Spirit and receive the rewards that are valid for an eternity, no restrictions, no blackout dates!

God wants to lavish His blessings on us, much more than we could ever ask or imagine. So much so, that, as a Prophet I recently met said, ‘The fat will be falling off you onto those around you and you cannot help but be a blessing to others!”
That’s where I want to be. Thank you LORD!

Covenant Church Managua celebrates Children's Day!

I am grateful to have been planted in Covenant Church Managua for this season of life! I love all the community outreaches and activities that we do together as a church family.

Many thanks to all who worked so hard to make Nicaragua's Children's Day very special. We celebrated it in Managua on Saturday and up in Diriamba with our sister church on Sunday.

Holy Spirit

RAIN, Rain, rain!!

After months of no rain in our dry season here in Nicaragua, we celebrated the first heavy rainfall this Rainy Season!! (Yes, it did rain a little a few days ago, but ended all too soon.) (Oh yes, and the outrageously curious hail storm a couple of weeks ago!! hmmm, explain that one with temps up to 103 degrees?!)

Well, last night we had a great, heavy downpour. Hallelujah!!! I was up at the orphanage in El Crucero, and the children were so excited! There has not been a supply of clean running water at the home for about two months now. We have had to fill up buckets and barrels from the end of the street, or drive down to get it in town by the barrels. After going to flush a toilet for so many weeks with nothing happening or turning on the taps for a shower with no results it was such an extravagance for the children to go outside last night and enjoy their first shower in ages! (They have been bathed in the mean time!) It warmed my heart to see their excitement as they went out with their shampoo - they were all smiles. I wish I had been able to capture it with my camera; it was a truly precious sight!

On the subject of rain, and my prayers for The Holy Spirit to reign/ rain down on us, I woke up this morning with a longing to see The Holy Spirit. I have an image in my mind about how God The Father looks, and of how God The Son, Jesus, looks, but The Holy Spirit, hmm, I wasn't getting a picture at all. I confess to actually doing a Google search for descriptions of The Holy Spirit. There were several responses posted, but there was one that caught my attention. Below is an excerpt from it, and a photo I'd like to share with you that gave me a mental image of The Holy Spirit. Mighty and Powerful, flowing freely, cleansing, refreshing, and providing life. As we move into our Rainy Season, I pray for an outpouring of The Holy Spirit, a harvest of Souls for God's Kingdom, a revival in the church for God's people. I will be reminded of this with every drop of rain that falls.

"God described the restoration of His people using the language of rain to illustrate the work of the Spirit: “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants” (Isa. 44:3, NIV; cf. Eze. 39:29; Isa. 32:15; 44:3). In Joel, after announcing the coming of the early and latter rains, God added, “I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions" (Joel 2:28, 29, NIV). "

technical difficulties...

Well my friends, I have tried to sit down and write an update for so long now, without success thus far. It has been one thing after another.

We have had several power outages again recently and lots of problems with internet access.

There was a really bad accident at the bottom of my road last night. A semi truck was flying down the hill without brakes and ended up crashing into a shopping strip mall. As I drove by shortly after the accident, the mess was indescribable, mangled cars and lamposts/powerposts knocked down, sidewalk all cut up, a dreadful mess! We learned this morning that 6 people died. News reported that the driver of the truck had just called home to tell his family the brakes were not working and he is quoted to have said, "I am going to die tonight, I have no brakes on this truck!" SO sad. We have been praying for his family and the others who lost their lives in this tragic accident. One of the 3rd grade students told me that God would find a way to make something good come out of it. Yes LORD, we pray for your goodness, grace and mercy to shine through. May it be a reminder to us not to take any chances in our vehicles. If something needs fixing, fix it! It is not only your life at stake but the others around us at the time. Don't gamble with life.

Now my trusted friend, my laptop, is failing me. It keeps shutting itself off mid word and not saving anything in memory!! Yikes!!!!!!!!!! I have re written some emails 3 times before finally getting a shortened, snappy version of my intended message sent out. Will send this out asap just in case!

My heart has been to share news and photos of what has been going on around here these past couple of hot and dusty months. Alas, all the pics are (temporarily I hope) lost in the darkness of my dead laptop, which I shall call Lazarus for now. I do believe it will come back to life long enough for me to get all my pics back!

Last Saturday, I went up to the orphanage in El Crucero again to cook our famous spaghetti dinner for 35 people. It went well, even with the challenges of no running water. Makes doing dishes afterwards a little challenging, not to mention cleaning all those spaghetti hands and faces afterwards!

The weekend before, I went straight after work at 2:30 pm and spent the weekend up there so that the house mum could take a weekend off to go on a ladies retreat. Thank you LORD for faithful friends who came up with me to share the workload. Many hands make light work, and more fun!!!! One of the young girls, Joselyn, 14 years old, was released from hospital that day after having a c-section. She had been raped by a 70 year old and got pregnant. She did not want anything to do with the baby: Selah Grace,a healthy little girl at 5 lbs 18"long. Selah was taken immediately by a Christian family from USA who will care for her here in Nicaragua. Joselyn slept with me the 1st few nights incase she needed anything. She did remarkably well, obviously bathed in prayers. Thank you to all you faithful prayer warriors who cover us all in times like these. I truly believe it makes a difference.

Our next prayer is that the water problem is sorted out up there soon! It is hard looking after 16 children without running water. And 4 of us came back with a nasty 24 hour stomach bug. Thank goodness we all made a speedy recovery and that the children were OK.

13 year old Ruby had another seizure last week. She spent the night in hospital and was put on medicine for epilepsy. Praying for recovery for little Ruby too. I want to include pics of her, (I hope I can add them later.) She is 13 years old and weighs about 16 lbs. She cannot walk and her legs are so thin. She doesn't seem to want to eat much either, is really only fond of her gallo pinto, (beans and rice) so it is a challenge to get her to eat! Ofelia was the same when she first came to Managua too though. Almost 4 years old with the appearance of a 4 month old baby. She had been discarded as handicapped and the authorities said she would never walk, and doubted if she would even survive. Well, you should see her now! She runs around and climbs up on everything. I told Ruby she would be right there with her soon!

LORD God you are so awsome. I thank you that you allow us to be even a small part in the lives of these children. That we can be co-laborers with you. I see your hand at work all around me. Even in the difficult and challenging circumstances. You are always with us, you have promised never to leave us or forsake us. I truly believe your Word Father God and stand firm on it's truth.

HOW DID WE DECIDE ON EL CRUCERO FOR OUR FIELD TRIP???

God did..........

The Miskito Coast, also known as the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua came up in a social studies class last October,
which led us to talk about the Miskito people, culture and community,
which led us to talk about the orphanage in El Crucero who cares for neglected, abused and abondoned children from Waspam, the Atlantic Coast.
The 3rd graders asked if we could go and visit them one day, one day, sure, one day...... but we got busy with stuff, school, life, Thanksgiving, Christmas, vacations, life......

BUT, the 3rd grade never let up, their hearts had been touched by the stories of some of the children who lived in El Crucero. They did not forget. They kept asking, we realised they were serious, their teacher, Ms. Gina finally made it happen.

Ancianos Coronados

Covenant Kids did a wonderful job today with their ministry to over 75 older folks at Ancianos Coronados, Managua. They opened with praise and worship, then prayed over each person present, shared Valentine cards that they had hand made, and finished by serving a lunch with special Valentine cake dessert. Hallelujah and Amen! I am so proud of you warriors for Christ xx
It was a truly amazing day filled with the presence of The LORD, 5 folks gave their hearts to The LORD in response to the children's prayers!

These very special people really touched my heart. Grandma Dina with her granddaughter Dinita. When I asked Dinita what she wanted to be when she grew up she didn't stop to take breath before replying: "I want to be a Pastor!" (but in spanish!) Dinita promised to pray for my grandchildren, how encouraging! Thank you Father God! I went to bless, but got blessed in return more than I could ever have asked or imagined.

Seasons Change.

So quickly, seemingly overnight, the landscape has changed; back to yellows and browns and lots of dust! We are well into the dry season once again. I used to wonder why the folks here would water the dirt, now I totally understand. The land is so dry that when the blustery winds blow, they pick up the surface dust and hurl it high into the air. Beware the dust clouds and the heat. When I get home at night I can feel a layer of dirt and dust on my skin, in my ears and on my face. And the hottest is yet to come; March and April usually beat all the records!

I can hardly believe I was in ice and snow and sub zero temperatures just a couple of months ago celebrating Christmas with my grandbabies in England! I treasured those moments hunting down the fattest icicles, making snowmen and just enjoyed being cold! I knew it would have to last me thru dry season here!!! I dream of those cold days now. Of course, I know there are folks out there wishing the temps would rise too. We are a contrary race. The grass always seems greener on the other side. As I get older time seems to go faster! I have truly learned to treasure every moment, we never know what tomorrow will bring. Enjoy the moment, the here and now. This is the day The LORD has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it! With that mindset, I feel more pressed to go and share the Good News of Salvation and God is providing me with many opportunities to speak and share, both publicly and in private.

Did you know cashews grow on trees? (I didn't!!) See the cashew in the pod at the end of the fruit? I find this tree fascinating, especially since it grows so well during dry season. God has all things planned to perfection!

The grass has disappeared, but these die hard soccer fans at NCA continue to play despite the dust and high winds!

I am so blessed by all the smiles from the precious students here at NCA, Nicaragua Christian Academy!

A 4th grader found a wounded bird on the playground and wanted to take care of it. This reminds me of how God holds His children, all of us, in the palm of His hands :)

California Gold Rush!! We had the 3rd graders re enact the gold rush. They had So much fun. More pics posted on fb..... they keep asking me if we can do it again!!!

Celebrating 100 days of school. We are so grateful that we can come to school every day and learn. Thankful for all the resources we have here at NCA. There are many children here in Nicaragua who do not even have the basics for a good education. Many of them are sent out to work, or have to stay at home to look after younger siblings while the parents go out to work.

At last!!! Halelujah!! I am so excited to let you know that the adoption for Michael and Gabriel was approved this week!!!! Praise you LORD! They were adopted by a loving Christian couple from Germany. Thank you, thank you to all of you who helped support us through these challenging years with your blessings of prayers, encouragement and finances. We really could not have done this without YOU!! It is so rewarding to see the fruits of our labor.

Update on Los Cedros

I went to visit the children in Los Cedros this weekend. What a blessing to see how God is working in their lives. They all look so healthy and happy !

Jose I am SO proud of you!! He was chosen to represent his school in a poetry recital. He gave me a recitation while I was there. SO impressive! I was amazed, you have come a long way! Keep up the good work Jose!

Josecito and his brother Joseph, handsome as ever, are in the process of being placed in a loving Christian home.

Celeste and Juanita still melt hearts with their smiles.

I remember the very 1st day you came to us Juanita, look how tiny you were. My Faith was one of the first ones to get hugs from you. My how you have grown!

Our Vision, we must “Find” It! If we want God's best, we must think about how to invest our life. Jesus said, "If you know these things...happy...are you if you...[do them]." Living this way means:
Jesus said, “For this reason I was born” (Jn 18:37 NIV). When you know why you’re here and what your God-given purpose is, you’ll have all the momentum you need. You won’t always get it right, but you’ll have the power to overcome each obstacle as you proceed. If you get turned around, God loves you enough to get your attention, correct and redirect you and get you back on track. But to find the right answers you must first ask the right questions, such as: (1) What desires have been living in me most of my life? (2) What motivates me to be productive? (3) What keeps me going forward when I’m worn out? (4) What makes me refuse to quit when I meet with resistance or opposition? (5) What do I do that doesn’t seem like work? (6) What do I do that brings positive response and support from others? (7) What am I doing, or what’s happening in my life when doors seem to open automatically and effortlessly? (8) What do discerning leaders and godly counselors think about my work? (9) What makes me feel good about being who I am? (10) What makes my creative juices flow? (11) What am I willing to sacrifice to accomplish it? (12) What am I doing that I’d be proud to offer for God’s approval? (13) What would I do without being paid, if I could afford to? (14) What would I be willing to withstand Satan over, in order to accomplish it? What is God saying to you? It’s not too late; “find” your vision and follow it!

There once lived a farmer who became jaded about Christmas and all things "Christian."
Late one raw winter night, he sat alone in the house, reading. In the quiet he heard an irregular thumping against the back porch door. He flipped on the light. To his surprise, the birds that had made their nests in a nearby tree were flying against the glass, almost as if knocking to come

inside. The limb on which they had built their nest had fallen under the weight of the ice. His heart went out to them.

He pulled on his snow boots and overcoat and pushed open the storm door. Immediately the birds fluttered away. Against knee-deep snow, he made his way out to the barn. He slid open the barn door and wondered how he could get the frightened birds into its warmth and safety.

He built a massive nest out of hay, but they wouldn't come near. He sprinkled some crackers in a path from their tree toward the barn. But they didn't follow. He tried to shoo them in, but they only scattered. He even lit a couple of candles inside the barn, hoping the added warmth would draw them. But to the birds, he was only something to be afraid of. He knew nothing of their language and nothing of their world.
He thought, If there were just some way that I could become a bird. If only for a few moments I could communicate to them how much I care, I could get them into the barn and they would be safe and warm.
At that moment, as only God would plan it, church bells began to ring in the distance. The farmer suddenly remembered, as he looked at his watch and checked the date, that it was Christmas morning.
At that moment, he grasped the true meaning of Christmas. A man becoming a bird is nothing to be compared to God's becoming a man. This was what the Savior did---He came to rescue the farmer himself and all humanity from the cold of sin. There in the deep snow on the back porch he fell to his knees, softened his heart, and returned to the Lord his God.

A TIME TO BE THANKFUL!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yummy! Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes with gravy, green bean casserole, cheesy broccoli, followed by pumpkin pie, fresh fruit and the best Nican coffee.

I just got home from our TG dinner at NCA, (Nicaragua Christian Academy.) Great company, great food! I love pot luck dinners when you get a little taste of all those delicious recipes. Now I am SO full!

And not just with food, I am full of thanks. I have so much to be grateful for. My list could go on and on……

I have learned to be content and at peace in all situations, for that I am thankful.

For my family and friends back home, “The Home Team.” It is your continued support with prayers and finances that enable me to be here/Thank you LORD for placing these people in my life so that I can live among and serve the people of Nicaragua.

I was without a vehicle for so long/I learned a lot about being humble and walking by Faith. (Literally sometimes, especially when walking home in the dark!) I built many lasting and beautiful relationships during that time, as folks invited me into their homes on the nights that I could not get a ride home. I am thankful for all those new friendships that blossomed out of the lack of transportation. And a BIG Thank you LORD that I was able to purchase a used vehicle 2 weeks ago!

For the 25 consecutive days (and many other random ones) that we had no electricity at home/Thank you LORD for teaching me to go without and get my priorities in order.

For all the times I found scorpions, snakes and other critters in my room or close by/Thank you LORD for helping me catch them before they caught me!

During all the dreadful rains and storms of the rainy season/Thank you LORD for keeping me safe.

My daughter has been sick recently and finally had surgery last week/ Thank you LORD for her recovery and your amazing provision (via some terrific friends) of a ticket for me to go back to UK to be with her and my 5 beautiful Grandangels for Christmas.

Today is my Grandson’s First Birthday! He has had some challenging health problems/ Thank you LORD for watching over him and being with him when I cannot, and thank you that I will finally meet him in about 27 days!

I could go on, but I’ll stop here and invite you to share some of yours with me please. I would love to hear from you.

30 HOUR FAMINE

A little before 6 o’clock on Saturday, after the 30 hour famine with World Vision that we did at NCA this weekend, we were asked to reflect on “What now?“

I want to share my reflections with you….

Let this not end here!!! We have come this far, let us continue on this path.

OK,
Well, allow me to start with a story: (some of you may have heard this before) a mouse looked out through a crack in a farmhouse wall and was distraught to discover a mousetrap. When he went to tell his buddies, the chicken said, “Sorry pal, not my problem.” The pig said, “I’ll pray for you.” The cow was busy and said, “Come back later.” Dejected, the mouse was left alone to handle his problem. That night a poisonous snake got caught in the mousetrap and when the farmer’s wife went to investigate she got bitten. She developed a raging fever, and everyone knows you treat a fever with chicken soup. So the farmer took his axe to the barn for the main ingredient! As his wife’s condition deteriorated and neighbors gathered, he had to butcher the pig to feed them. Finally she died. So many people came to the funeral that he ended up slaughtering the cow to make dinner for them all. In the end everybody lost!

The Bible says, “Encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.” 1 Thes 5 v 14. It only takes one thing to be an encourager: a willingness to “bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves” (Ro 15:1 NAS). Before deciding somebody else’s problem has nothing to do with you, read 1Co 12:26 NKJV: “If one member suffers, all the members suffer” You can’t sit on the sidelines while someone’s hurting; tomorrow it may be you! We are told to “Share each other’s burdens” (Gal 6:2 NLT). When one of us is threatened we’re all at risk. Our lives are woven together for a reason; each of us is a vital thread in another person’s tapestry.

Well, I certainly saw students sharing each others’ burdens this weekend. Bearing the weaknesses of those without strength, encouraging them and being patient with their friends.

One of my responsibilities for the event (30 hour famine) was to help set up a prayer room. I gathered many items and set about the task Friday afternoon. It was a beautiful experience, and we started prayer, praise and worship immediately. The fast was from 12 noon on Friday until 6 pm Saturday, and we had around the clock prayer coverage in our temporary sanctuary. The whole event was bathed in prayer as parents, teachers, students and I prayed before the event, during and after.

At the start of the event each student was given an index card to write out a prayer request. Most of them were anonymous, in fact only 2 or 3 were signed.
Then we posted the prayer requests and started praying.
Students and leaders were coming in and praying over the petitions, some written answers were displayed. I saw and felt a spirit of unity among the students that I had never seen before. (It may have been there, but this was the first time I had become aware of it.)

The more we prayed, the more I saw the freedom of The LORD. I realized that the enemy no longer had the right to be in any of these situations, not one of them! I saw healing begin as God took over. Strongholds were torn down, chains of injustice broken, freedom in Christ. The lies and schemes of the enemy are now in God’s hands. I saw students encouraging each other, lifting each other up with words of edification, hugs, tears, healing and hope. Amazing unity. Thank you LORD, Praise you Heavenly Father, Thank you!

When it was time to tear down the prayer room after the event on Sat night, I just couldn’t do it! I had seen so much healing and victory in that room over the weekend. I ended up leaving it there an extra night, promising to tear it down the next morning, Sunday, before church. Even then, it was so difficult for me, as I started to pack away the candles and curtains and get the room ready for business as usual Monday morning.

After the event I spoke with one of the high school students and we both felt that it shouldn’t end here, not like this. We could not bring ourselves to erase the prayers and toss the cards away.
It is time to walk out this healing, in Jesus name. We have to walk out this victory, claim it in Jesus name, for this generation and for generations to come.
Romans 8 v 37: “In ALL these things we are more than conquerors.” So how can we be MORE than conquerors? Well, we not only win, for now we have God on our side. (And “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8 v 31)
But we have also trapped the enemy in his own snares. He dished out pain, suffering, fear, shame and humiliation, and thought he could get away with it! But now he has it all back! He has to flee. He has been trapped in his own evil devices, they no longer have a hold over the lives of these young people and their families. And, now the battle is not ours, but His! Exodus 14 v 14 “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Once we know about a problem, an attack of the enemy, we can do something about it. We can unite and stand firm! The unity that we shared this weekend will not just end now that the 30 hour famine event is over, we will work at making it a way of life.

I spoke to our Principal Saturday night about having a prayer room somewhere on campus permanently, where the students can go to express their deepest fears, pain and intimate struggles. So we can unite and gather together and protect ourselves from the wiles of the enemy. As long as we hold each other up we can claim the victory in Jesus name, just as Moses did in Exodus 17 v 11-13: “As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired they (Aaron and Hur) took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up-one on one side, and one on the other – so that his hands remained steady until sunset,” until the battle was won. Let’s hold each other’s hands up!

Shackles were broken this weekend, prisoners were freed, from darkness and lies, God showed up in a mighty way, bringing the victory that comes with the blood of Jesus. As He promised us in Isaiah 58 v 6-8: “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break EVERY yoke.”

Almighty Father in Heaven, my heart is overflowing with gratitude for the wonderful works of your hand. I thank you that you will continue with the good works you have started here and see it through to completion. Last Friday we celebrated Dia de la Patria here at NCA/Nicaragua Christian Academy. I learned a lot about the history and culture of Nicaragua as the children presented their projects at various booths.

Then they performed many of the local folklore dances in full costume. Even the teachers dressed up and danced a traditional number!! We ended the fiesta with a lunch of typical Nican food: gallo pinto, nactamales, pino lillo and more yummy dishes.

Torrential rainstorms last Thursday afternoon took the life of 15 year old Ana Gabriela. Daughter of one of our staff members here at NCA, Ana Gabriela drowned as she was trying to cross a flooded bridge on the way home from school. I went to the wake Thursday night. There were so many people there, both from NCA and the local community, bringing words of encouragment and comfort to the family. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. LORD we lift this family up to you in the power of prayer. Thank you for your unfailing love.

Getting around town today, Saturday, was slow. The devastation from the fierce rains is evident all around. Walls have collapsed all over town, and many homes have been destroyed in the floods. Roads are blocked with fallen power lines, Managua is a mess! Please lift up all the families who have suffered terrible losses due to this dreadful weather, and also pray for protection and the peace that passes all understanding in the midst of all this. Thank you Father for your mercy and grace.

Beach Babies!

When I'm not at NCA, you will probably find me up in El Crucero visiting the babies. Last weekend we took them to the beach for the day. They loved it! Then we went to church on Sunday and to Pizza Hut for lunch afterwards! At four years old, Ofelia is now walking!!!! She took her first steps last week. !! They are all so much more interactive, with lots of smiles that warm your heart. When they first arrived, they would not even look you in the eye. God you are amazing. Thank you that we can be co-laborers with you! Go God!

Saturday August 7th: I went up to El Crucero to spend the weekend with the new babies from the Atlantic Coast. Many of you have been praying faithfully for their health. Greetings!

I have spent the last couple of weeks preparing to start a new school year at NCA/Nicaragua Christian Academy as Lower Elementary Teacher's Assistant. It has been a little overwhelming at times, but well worth all the time and effort. We had our open house last night and I enjoyed meeting the parents and students. Some were old friends, and some I was meeting for the first time. This is a new begining. I can hardly wait to see what God has planned for the next semester and on from there.

Back to school for the students starts on Monday, I look forward to being in the classroom again and working with the children in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. Roll on Monday! Go God!!! I'm with you!

BUT: we have 4 more babies in hospital battling chronic pneumonia. Working around the clock to help them get better. Back in Nicaragua, and happy to be here! Rainy season and all!!!

It is so beautiful, lush and green. I am in awe of your wonderful creation LORD. The words from Isaiah 55 v 12 come to mind; "You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands." I join Creation in praising you LORD.

Thank you to all who made my time in USA so fruitful and rewarding. I love you!!

I made several interesting contacts while I was in Florida and plan to follow up on them here over the next couple of weeks. Please pray for God's direction for my meetings with: Food for The Poor, Angels of Hope Orphanages, ANF/American Nicaraguan Foundation, Arms of Love Orphanage and La Vina (to name a few.)

"See I am doing a new thing! I am making a way in the desert, and streams in the wasteland." says The LORD in Isaiah 43

And indeed He is doing a new thing in my life.

God has provided me with an opportunity to work as a teacher’s aide in a local Christian school here. It is a missionary position that pays a basic living stipend. This will help me to take care of some things that my previous budget did not allow. Mostly health & dental care, maybe also a car, and at some point a home of my own. I have been hitching rides and taking public buses, which I don’t mind at all but it is getting increasingly dangerous, especially as a single female.

The Nicaraguan Christian Academy (NCA) is dedicated to raising up a new generation of leaders to bring this country out of the darkness it has been entrapped in for so long. This matches my vision for Nicaragua.

It will be quite different for me to be ministering to children at the school, a new responsibility in a totally new environment.

I feel strongly about continuing to work with children in need, in orphanages and in the streets, and I pray that God will make it known to me how He wants me to do that.

One of my future visions is to be able to provide a safe place, a home for children in critical need, and I press on with that goal in my heart.

I appreciate your prayers and invite you to stay with me as we go forward to the next scene in the Epic Adventure of Life.

No doubt God’s heart is broken for the lost and abandoned, the needy, the orphans and widows. The Bible makes it clear how God feels about missions. Jesus Christ is our model of how we should reach out to help. Jesus ministered through loving people and building relationships with them. He encouraged and discipled people then empowered them to go out and do the same.

The Missions conference at The Vineyard of Gainesville a couple of weeks ago was a rich time of unity. I was blessed to be among like minded people from so many of the different churches in the area. Many thanks to all who helped with the conference, it was very rewarding to share our hearts for missions with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Thank you LORD for all the seeds that were planted, may The Harvest for Your Kingdom be great! May this become an annual event and continue to stir peoples’ hearts for missions. May we bring Glory to Your name Father as we go out and do the work you have commissioned us to do.

The YWAM Outreach training ended May 18th and the last of the team left on Thursday night. WOW! What a radical, fun, challenging God adventure!! We travelled around Nicaragua and worked with several different ministries as well as local communities and got a great firsthand experience of many of the awesome works that God is doing here.

Praise God that Jo jo and Japheth were able to leave Managua last week to travel back to the Atlantic Coast to be reunited with their family. Just in time to celebrate his 1st birthday at home! What an amazing recovery, and a living testimony to God's healing power.

We visited two schools in Nejapa and shared the story of Noah. We talked about God's unconditional love for us and His perfect plan for each one of our lives. Through hearing The Word, one of the teachers accepted Jesus as her Savior! AND the Pastor we were working with that week was invited to return and give weekly bible study classes . Hallelujah and Amen!!!! Thank you LORD for allowing us to be even a small part in your amazing plans. "And how can they believe without hearing? And how can they hear unless someone tells them?" Romans 10 v14

We did a Kid's Camp" for about 80 children 3 afternoons in a row. Many of them wanted to come back to the church on Sundays and bring their family's. Thank you LORD that: "He who began a good work in you will carry it through to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1v6

We helped with a feeding program at the city dump, La Chureca, and stayed to play with some of the children afterwards.

Japheth released from hospital :)

Baby Japheth was finally released from hospital last week! Hooray! He was admitted with his Mother April 8th and had several emergency plastic surgeries on his leg. He is recovering well at a friend's house and will stay in Managua for at least 15 days so they can go for a follow up checkup. Praying they can return to the Atlantic coast to their family soon. Thank you LORD for your provision, healing and protection. You are good ALL the time!

April 27th 2010: I went to visit Jo-jo and Japheth today. He is doing incredibly well. The skin graft looks better than I could have imagined. (After working with burn victim baby Pedro in Los Cedros last year.) He was so happy, crawling all over the bed, pulling up on both feet, using both legs as normal!!! Amazing, thank you LORD! However, he was scheduled for more surgery tomorrow at 9am. One more skin graft is needed. Please keep him in your prayers, his blood count is low and he may need a blood transfusion too. Especially pray for no more infections, and for comfort for his Mother. I am involved with a different ministry this week and am not able to visit them as often. Hopefully they will be released from hospital soon and will be allowed to stay with a friend of mine here in Managua until they are able to make the trip back to the Atlantic Coast.

Miskito Mother and Baby...

April 8th 2010: I got news that a mother and her baby were being flown into Managua for emergency surgery for the infant. They belong to the Miskito Indian tribe who live in a small village on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua. This was their first visit to "The Big City", and the fear in the Mother's eyes was apparent the moment my friend and I met them at the local public hospital. After a lengthy check in procedure we settled into a tiny room for the night.

The Mother's name is Jehyrah, and her 11 month old son is called Japheth, (after one of Noah's sons.)

Jo -jo, (as we call her) shared her story with me. Several weeks ago, her baby was bitten by a wasp and the bite became infected. She took him to a hospital local to her on the Atlantic coast and he had surgery to remove the infected area. The hospital was quite a distance away from her house, and she did not have the resources to get back for the follow up check ups needed. As a result of this, the wound became badly infected again, so she struggled to get the money together to get back to the hospital. By this time Japheth's leg was so bad that the doctors had to do surgery again to cut out the infected area. Well, repeat that part again: the poor baby had surgery 3 times, each time more of his thigh was being cut away to remove the infection until it became so desperate that the government offered to fly them to Managua for specialty surgery. Jo-jo had to walk SEVEN HOURS to meet the army plane that flew her over. Laden with her bags and a very delicate, sick baby. I cannot put into words how that made me feel: I knew in that moment that there was nothing I would not do to help this valiant Mother and her precious, beautiful child. And that is where I have been the past couple of weeks. Sometimes sleeping on the floor, I try to go visit with them every day: help with meals, wash their dirty laundry, help with Japheth to give Jo-jo a break, meet with the doctors and hospital staff to get regular updates, and whatever is needed. One of her biggest obstacles has been the racial prejudices, both real and imagined, that local Nicans have against the Indian tribes. Because of her feelings of self doubt, inadequacy and unworthiness, she hesitates to do anything alone and depends on me and a friend of mine for friendship and support. The differences between black and white and Nicans is sadly evident in this place.

The first time I saw Japheth's wound I was shocked at the severity. He had been cut to the bone literally, with skin hanging loose all around. I could not imagine how this would ever heal and wondered if he would ever have use of that leg to walk. We started a prayer chain immediatley and thanked God for a miracle for this little angel.

Japheth had a couple of pre op surgeries, then a few days ago he had major plastic surgery. The doctors removed skin from his healthy leg to place on his injured thigh. Although this was a very traumatic time for the Mother, The LORD used it to minister to us both, and others in the hospital as we shared our smiles and tears. It was a golden opportunity to love and encourage fellow sisters in Christ. Jo-jo reads her bible in Meskito as I read side by side with her in my NIV. One night we had the whole ward singing praise and Worship songs together!
They will have to stay here in Managua for several more weeks for follow up and physical therapy. Jo-jo has 3 other children back home: 5 year old twins and a 9 year old son. Please keep them in your prayers, that Jo-jo will have peace and that Japheth will heal completely this time, no more infections. Thank you LORD!!

After a week of prep and team building exercises in Belize, we brought our YWAM team back via Tica bus, chicken buses, water taxis, cabs, minivan, and by foot. We felt God’s hand upon us as He took care of all the details along the way, from Belize, through Guatemala, Honduras and back into Nicaragua.

Saturday March 27th: Our first outreach was at Vida Nueva orphanage.

At my local church, Covenant Church Managua, we have been teaching the young children about Missions and helping in the Community. This was their very first “Missions Trip.” We had a fun day with the children at the orphanage: entertaining them with puppet shows, singing, pinata, bouncy castle, face painting and an Easter Egg Hunt. Along with a typico USA almuerzo of hot dogs n cake!

We spent our first 2 weeks of outreach in a town called El Crucero. The trip from Managua to El Crucero is spectacular: an abundance of nature combined with superb views. El Crucero is located at an elevated level, reaching an altitude of over 900 meters. As a consequence of this height, a cool, strong wind almost permanently chills the inhabitants of this region. Although it is only 30 minutes drive, the climate of El Crucero is completely different from the climate in Managua. (which is a good thing since April is the hottest month of the dry season) We partnered with a Ministry called “Mas Que Vencedores” (More than conquerors) (Rom 8:37) We started out by cleaning and painting the main school building to get it ready for the children to return after the Easter Holidays. We graded exam papers and then helped teach the English classes.

Our God is an awesome God. He has such great plans for our lives! Every day holds something new. As many of you know, a good friend of mine, Ally, is here in Nicaragua with me for the next 4 months to complete her YWAM Discipleship training. The YWAM missions base in Belize recently asked us to lead a small team of girls here in Managua. So tomorrow we leave at 4 am for a 3 day and 2 night adventure, by bus, water taxi, (and who knows what else) to San Pedro, Belize. We will return with the girls to lead them in community outreaches and missions training. We do not know what each day will hold but we are expecting God to move and lead us step by step. Please keep us in your prayers as we step out in Faith on this exciting adventure. Watch this space for more updates :)

I took the soda bottle pictured in the photos, cut it in half and made a "dish" out of it so the little boy could get some food.

February 23rd 2010: I went to visit Cristo Rey for the first time today. I had heard a lot recently about this community, but was shocked to see how devastatingly poor they are there. And I have witnessed poverty many times over in the three years I have lived here in Nicargaua. We went to see some of the schools that have been set up there, one in particular: a pre school with 250 children enrolled, but only one table and 15 chairs. If the parents want to send their children to school, they have to send them with a chair and books too. But the parents have no source of income, this community is in the middle of nowhere, on the outskirts of Managua. There is no work available, no running water, no shops. Desolate, dry and dusty. Yet just look at the smiles shining bright on the faces of God's little ones here. They were such a blessing to me, I have to go back. In what capacity, I do not yet know, except that I cannot just walk away and carry on as usual. They need our prayers, please join us in praying for God's blessings to reign down on them here in Cristo Rey, and for guidance on how to best help them.

Hooray, my dear friend and sister in Christ Ally arrived today!!!!
We hit the ground running. I just read her blog entry for her first day here, would you just take a look at this:

Nicaragua :) "I am here in Nicaragua now! I had a great first day..filled and overflowing with crazy adventures. I went to the orphanage with Andrea and met the children, I think that I already fell in love with half a dozen children:) Then we went out to lunch with this family that was visiting from Colorado and who wanted more info about the orphanage, then we met up with this guy named Eli who runs a tutoring/feeding program for young children who don't have anyone at home to help with homework or money to buy their school uniforms...then he took us into the city dump and we got to meet some families that pick cans out of the trash to sell. And see a missions school that is in the middle...it is crazy that there is a small village of people that live in the dump filled with trash and smelly fires everywhere. It is a hard life for these people with not much hope. (see earlier blog entry on "La Chureca.") After that we went to a Christian school and visited a friends daughter...we hung out there until they had youth group and spent time worshipping and praying with some pretty on-fire kids! And on top of it all we prayed for several people along the way....and got pulled over by the police for not having all of out lights on even though it was not even dark yet...they just saw a chance to be paid off, which we never give into. All in all it was a great day filled with chances to meet new people and see God moving in different ways. We'll see what today holds:) " Ally

As you can see from the pictures, our pre school program is going very well. We have been working on developmental skills like hand/eye co-ordination, fine motor skills, shape and color recognition and much more. From the time I started until now I have seen incredible growth in each child. It has been a joy to watch them grow so quickly. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement for these beautiful angels. I feel so blessed to be even a small part of their journey.

We had the pleasure of taking 19 of the older children to the zoo with a team that was visiting us on a short term mission trip. I was encouraged to see that the children were more settled on this field trip. For the most part, they were confident and relaxed, hooray! They are getting more accustomed to new environments.

We enjoyed lunch at McDonalds afterwards too! The children were exhausted when they got back, naptime was no problem! When they woke up they asked if they could go back to the zoo! We had a fun day, thanks guys n girls!

Baby in critical condition

Tuesday Jan 5th 2010:
I recieved a call today to pick up a baby in critical need and take her to the hospital. The baby girl had no name, and we had no date of birth, or any other family info. We called her Maritza and she was estimated to be about 4 months old. She has the appearance of a newborn because she is suffering from severe malnutrition. I stayed overnight with her until one of our nannies could change shifts with me the next day. (The public hospitals here are very basic, you have to provide the caregiver and all the supplies: sheets, diapers, towels, soap, etc. ) Maritza had many tests, and is thought to have many serious illnesses to overcome. A long fight ahead of her, but we know that God is a God of healing and of miracles. I know He has a plan for her life. I will keep you updated of her progress.

If this was an unusual case, it would be bad enough. But this is just one of many babies who suffer here in poverty struck Nicaragua. Innocent victims of circumstances, unable to speak up for themselves or defend themselves. This is why I am here. This is why I am here. No, it wasn't a typo, I just want you to know that I feel this so sincerely.

Martitza will be in hospital for about 10 days, she is weak, weighs only 10 lbs and cannot take more than an ounce of milk at a time.

What an awesome Christmas this is turning out to be. It is an honor and a privilidge to be sharing it with these Nicaraguan children and their families. I helped with ANOTHER CHRISTMAS PARTY, for 100 children today. Donuts and soda, and gifts galore.

Sunday December 27th:
Christmas party hosted by missionaries Leo and Charity was a HUGE success. Over 500 meals of arroz con pollo were served, followed by delicious chocolate Christmas Cake. I cannot express how much joy it brought me to be just a small part of this outreach. Every child got a gift too!! I am astounded by God's amazing, abundant provision. He is so faithful, loving, kind and merciful. Thank you LORD, gracias a Dios!!

December 26th

After a morning with the babies, I carried on to a town called El Crucero to help prepare for a Christmas Party for 500 underpriviliged children - hosted by missionaries Leo and Charity. We had about 1000 balloons to blow up and tie together to decorate the center, and yards of crepe paper to cut up to make streamers. I met some wonderful Christian ladies. It was a special time of fellowship, laughing and sharing life stories as we worked together to get it all done it time. Looking forward to the party tomorrow!!

The center was closed for a few days over Christmas so I took 3 of the babies home with me. It was a busy and blessed time. They still get nervous being away from their familiar surroundings. You can see the anxiety in their expressions as I get up to take the photos, I have to reassure them I am not going to leave them. They play close to me, checking all the time to be sure I am still there.

more field trips

Many of the children get nervous when they are taken outside the gates of their secure environment at the center. So one of my goals is to take them out more often to get them accustomed to "the outside world." So to enjoy the season of Christmas, we spent most of last week going out and around town to enjoy the Christmas decorations. We went out for pizza one night and waited for the sun to set so we could see all the lights. It was so pretty. The children loved dancing and singing to the Christmas music too. I am blessed to be sharing Christmas with these little angels!

A Christmas field trip to The Mall.

December 15 : I took 8 of our children on a field trip to The Gallerias Mall to see the Christmas decorations and join in the festivities. It was their first visit to The Mall, the nannies too. And we went for a ride in the elevator, 1st time for the children and nannies too! We had fun.

December 13th. I picked up 3 year old Carla early this morning so she could come to church with me, then we spent the rest of the day together!

December 11th. 10 month old Johanita needs lots of extra help with her physical development. I went with her to a physical therapist today to learn how we can best help her.

Hello, how are you?

My thanks to all the folks who helped with the rummage sale last weekend and those of you that bought coffee. I appreciate your dedication to supporting the work of The LORD here in Nicaragua.

After a short visit to South Florida, I made it back safely to Nicaragua yesterday, Wednesday, ready to start afresh.

WHAT WILL THAT LOOK LIKE? Using developmental assessments, I plan to continue working with the children at Vida Nueva (New Life) one on one and in small groups to encourage them to reach their full potential in all areas of development. Last month we introduced a basic pre-school style daily program. Implementing this new program will be my main focus for the next few months.

Nicaraguans are relational people by nature. Everything revolves around relationships, so my goal for December is not only to work with the children but also to work on strengthening relationships with the nannies too. This is the main reason I felt the need to be back here for the holidays. I want to encourage the nannies by being there with them and for them. After all, we will need to work on this together as a team in order for the children to reap the benefits of the new program.

Greetings! Many of you have shown an interest in keeping more up to date on what is happening in Nicaragua. So I finally got around to starting a blog. I will try to write every week and include photos so we can take advantage of the 21st century technology and bridge the gap between us. I invite you to join in the communication by leaving your comments.

I have been living in Nicaragua for almost 3 years, and am currently serving in a children’s home that houses little ones from birth – 6 years old. At this time we have 23 children who have been brought to us by the local authorities, the Ministry of Families. The children have suffered severe traumas and are victims of abuse, neglect, abandonment and/or suffering from chronic malnutrition. Due to no fault of their own, they are some of the most disadvantaged children in the poorest country in the entire Western Hemisphere.

I consider it a privilige and honor to be a part of God’s plan for restoring grace in the lives of these children. I look forward to sharing life with you, praise and prayer requests and I invite and encourage you to partner with me in ministering to these angels God has placed in our care.
